Acting President Osinbajo sacked NCAA directors Friday because they were unqualified, following a report by a Presidential Committee.

Barely 48 hours after Acting President Yemi Osinbajo carried out surprise inspection at the Lagos airport, all 10 directors of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has been sacked.

Today’s Impact learnt that Osinbajo sacked NCAA directors following earlier recommendations by a Presidential Committee.

The committee, headed by the Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, had recommended for complete restructuring of the aviation sector because unqualified people were placed in management positions.

Besides, there were reports that many of aviation agencies had over-bloated staff.

When NAN contacted the General Manager of Public Relations for NCAA, Mr Sam Adurogboye, he confirmed the sack.

“It is true that the directors have been disengaged but I don’t have details of the reasons given for the action by the ministry,” he said.

Those fired include Director of Airworthiness, Mr Benedict Adeyileka; Director of Finance and Accounts, Alhaji Salawu Ozigi; Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Dr Joyce Nkemakolam;

Also sacked were Director of Administration, Mr Aba Ejembi; Director of Licensing, Mr Emmanuel Ogunbami; Director of Air Transport Regulation, Mr Justus Wariya, and Director of Consumer Protection, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi.

Others were Director of General Aviation, Capt. Ayodele Sasegbon and Director of Human Resources, Mr Austin-Amadi Ifeanyi.

They were asked to vacate their posts and handover with immediate effect.

In October last year, the Federal Government had similarly fired directors of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and demoted General Managers by up to five levels.

The government only filled the vacant posts on Friday, the same time it sacked the directors of NCAA, but with just three directors and one general manager.

A statement issued by the spokesperson for FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu, said the newly appointed directors are Group Captain U.S.A. Sadiq as Director of Security Services (DSS), Capt. Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu as Director of Airport Operations (DAO); Engr. Salisu Nura Daura as Director of Maintenance and Engineering; and Aniefiok Umoh appointed as General Manager, Finance.

“The Management and staff of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) welcomes the new directors and General Manager and looks forward to a good working relationship that will add value to the system,” the statement said.
