No fewer than 17 academic staff of University of Jos (Unijos) have been promoted to the rank of professors and 22 others to the position of Readers, Governing Council of the University of the university has said.
A statement made available to newsmen by Abdullahi Abduallahi, the Principal Assistant Registrar, Information and Public Relations of the University, said some of the promotions took effect from October 1, 2013, while others took effect from October 1, 2014.
The new professors are: Ahmedu Ibrahim Musa (Religion and Philosophy), Gideon Umezurike Egezie (Human Physiology) and Grace Mebi Ayanbimpe (Medical Microbiology).
Others are: Noel Nenman Wanang (Pharmacology), Nyager Elizabeth (Theatre and Film Arts), and Agaku Jacob (Theatre and Film Arts), who was promoted post-humously.
The list also include Ikonji Ogaji (Pharmaceutical Technology), David Pam Yakubu (Zoology), Bakwa Dirting Dakup (Physics) and Barnabas John Kwaha (Physics).
Also, there were: Mary Plangnan Haggai (Educational Foundations), Agbo Felicia Onyemowo (Science and Technology Education), Stephen Samuel Gyang (Clinical Pharmacy) and Haruna Bonaventure Nkup (Political Science).
Professors Christiana Ogoamaka Okoye (Political Science), Alemika Emily, (Faculty of Law) and Adefioye O. Akerele (Economics Department) had their promotions become effective from October 1, 2011.
Meanwhile 22 academic staff members were also promoted to Reader position by the council.
